Tourism Phd, Universidad Antonio de Nebrija, Madrid, Spain. MBA Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico. Hospitality Marketing Certificate, Cornell University. Bachelor's degree in Tourism with a specialty in Tourism Planning at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional. For 23 years he served in the Ministry of Tourism of Mexico holding various positions, including Undersecretary of Planning and Undersecretary of Operation. For 2 years he was Regional Representative of the United Nations World Tourism Organization for the Americas. For 12 years he was Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Gastronomy of the Universidad Anáhuac México where he also founded and directed the Tourism Research and Competitiveness Center (Cicotur) for 4 years. For 9 years he has been a member of the Conacyt National Researchers System (level 1). He is currently the Director of the Sustainable Tourism Advanced Research Center (STARC) at the Universidad Anáhuac Cancún. He is the only Mexican who is part of the editorial team of the Encyclopedia of Tourism. He has recently been invited as a Contributing Expert to the Tourism Panel on Climate Change, where he is also the only Mexican.
