Personal resume

Marcelo Casals (Santiago, 1983): Researcher at CIDOC and professor at the School of History at the Finis Terrae University. He holds a PhD in Latin American History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research has addressed various dimensions and phases of the Chilean political conflict during the 20th century, including the study of actors who adhered to different forms of revolutionary horizons as well as those who opposed them. In these lines of research, he has analyzed the trajectory of the Chilean left, the widespread anti-communist persuasion during the 20th century, and the middle class under the military dictatorship, among other topics. These approaches have benefited from tools of political, social, and transnational history, falling within the field of Latin American Cold War studies. He is the author of the following books: "El alba de una revolución: la izquierda y el proceso de construcción estratégica de la 'vía chilena al socialismo' 1956-1970" (Santiago, LOM Ediciones, 2010); "La creación de la amenaza roja. Del surgimiento del anticomunismo en Chile a la 'campaña del terror' de 1964" (Santiago, LOM Ediciones, 2016); and "Contrarrevolución, colaboracionismo y protesta. La clase media chilena y la dictadura militar" (Santiago, Fondo de Cultura Económica, 2023), in addition to articles, book chapters, and edited books on similar topics.
