Abstract

This article analyses two recent examples of Chilean testimonial literature about the floods of March 25, 2015 (25M) in Atacama: Renacer entre el lodo by Hilda Olivares (2015) and LA DEFENSA: mi defensa by Brisa Mánquez (2016). The 25M was an extraordinarily unusual hydrometeorological event with catastrophic consequences for the area. This article will discuss some narrative strategies detected in both works and their role in denouncing the socio-natural disaster experienced. Ultimately, the study of both testimonies confirms their critical potential to reveal how some neoliberal structural conditions underlie the precariousness of the most vulnerable sectors of the region, intensified and revealed by the 25M.
