Behaviour of Francis units under partial loads

Studies were carried out in Mexico to gain a better understanding of the behaviour of four Mexican powerplants with Francis turbines working under partial loads. Based on the transfer matrix method, a simple procedure has been developed to predict the behaviour of hydroelectric machinery under diverse operating conditions, and it is shown that numerical results seem to be in good agreement with prototype measurements.
