Neuroticism

Abstract

The book chapter aims to investigate the role played by neuroticism, personality traits and motivation in the development of the emergent concept of organizational emotional intelligence. The research was conducted in an Italian company among 139 employees. Employees compiled the ORG-EIQ, the WOMI and the BIG FIVE questionnaire Italian version. Findings point out that personality traits, over the effect of work motivation, impact on organizational emotional intelligence and work-related stress tolerance. The particular role played by neuroticism is highlighted in the results. Indeed, neuroticism may impede emotional intelligence, with particular reference to selfawareness and self-management. Implications of the results obtained are finally discussed.
